You know I love my food. And I love my Latin American food as you can tell from so many of my posts lately. I’m in trouble. Fogo de Chao (not Chow how I’ve always pronounced it by “sh-ow” oops) opened a new location in Rosemont, not too far from my house. When ChicagonistaLIVE invited me there for a blogger lunch to try it out (yes, I received a free lunch but was not obligated to write about this and my opinions are mine), you know I’m not going to turn them down.
So yes, I literally went from the airport after Type A to Fogo de Chao . Fortunately my flight worked well, and the airport is close. I arrived just in time to hear from the general manager and chefs about the philosophy of the restaurant, with a reminder to keep my chip on red unless I am ready for food because the waiters will continue to come by offering more food if the green side is up.
With that, it was time to check out the salad bar . I walked into Fogo de Chao entirely intending to focus on the meat. The meat is so amazing, and there are so many different ways of preparing all the varieties. I didn’t want to fill up on the salad bar. Then I saw it.
Not only was it beautiful, forum cinemas but it had selections I wouldn’t have imagined from your traditional salad bar offerings to fresh mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes, smoked fish and meats, and more. I, of course, was struck by the giant wheel of Parmesan that contained chunks of parm. To say I want one in my own home is an understatement.
Fortunately, I restrained myself and had just a little of the things I most wanted to try from the salad bar, and they were delicious and fresh, though forum cinemas I would have preferred forum cinemas my asparagus forum cinemas slightly less cooked. I could easily go to Fogo de Chao and just enjoy the salad bar except that… it’s Fogo de Chao, and I can’t do that.
When I got back to the table, the wait staff realized that I hadn’t ordered a drink yet. After looking and hearing from others at the table that the Brazilian limeade forum cinemas was not to be missed, I ordered one. It is lime juice mixed with sugar and water and blended with condensed milk. It isn’t super creamy so that it is overpoweringly rich, but it is amazingly perfectly balanced. And unfortunately they have free refills, and the waiters simply bring you another before you finish your last one. I was not about to turn it down, however.
On the cocktail side , Fogo de Chao of course forum cinemas offers the traditional Brazilian caipirinha. It is incredibly strong, and I don’t recommend more than one, even with all that meat to soak up the alcohol. We just had sips to taste it, and it is tropical and yummy but oh does it have a punch. It’s made with a hard liquor made from sugar cane, as well as with sugar and lime juice. If you aren’t quite up for that, Fogo de Chao also has an amazing wine selection. I wish I owned only a tiny fraction forum cinemas of what they have in visible storage.
And then there is the meat. There are 16 different kinds of meat brought to you by the gauchos forum cinemas continually – if your chip is facing green. I didn’t have one that I didn’t like, although there was no way I could taste all sixteen in one sitting. You definitely have to plan it out and have an idea of what you want and don’t forum cinemas want or you’ll be overwhelmed. My favorite was the fraldinha, which is a bottom sirloin that is incredibly flavorful.
Somehow, we managed to save a tiny bit of room to try dessert . Not surprisingly, Fogo de Chao has an amazing dessert selection, the majority of which is fairly light – just what I need after a heavy meal. They offer key lime pie, flan, creme brulee, turtle cheesecake, molten chocolate cake, and a signature papaya cream. I sampled forum cinemas “just” the creme brulee (and I do mean sampled), the flan and the papaya cream. The creme brulee was superbly done with a great creamy texture and flavor and the perfect crust. My favorite, however, was the papaya cream. It’s a more unique dish, and the papaya actually aids in digestion. It was very light and almost felt like a whipped frozen dessert. This is one I will definitely have to try to save room for an entire serving, though I don’t know if I’ll ever succeed at Fogo de Chao.
What I most loved about Fogo de Chao (aside from all the amazing food and drink) is that they have all this wonderful selection – including amazing side dishes, a few of which we tried ̵
